We bought this car a year ago, Feb. 2005. My son Christian and I have redone the motor and most of the mechanicals on the car.
The car had been sitting for two years, so it was quite a mess. We completely pulled the motor and rebuilt it, and did what was necessary to make it operable. It is winter 2005, and all is done, except for body work and a few more modifications.

So far, we have done the following:
GENERAL
Replaced the brake system, u-joints, new headliner and minor body work.
ENGINE
The engine in the El Camino is a small block 350 Chevy. It has been modified with a .465/.488 114 hydraulic flat tappet cam, milled performance heads with stainless steel 2.02/1.60 valves and 62cc combustion chambers putting the engine at around 9.5:1 compression. It is topped off with a Weiand
X-CELerator single plane intake manifold and a Holley Street Demon 670cfm 4brl carb. The exhaust consists of Hooker Competition long tube headers which lead to a custom 2.5” true dual exhaust, dumped before the axle with Purple Hornies mufflers turned down.
TRANSMISSION
Behind the engine is a 2500 stall converter which leads into a TH350 trans. The trans has been fitted with a B&M shift kit.
NEXT TO DO
3.73 posi rear, new rims and tires, paint, and suspension work.
